The scripture files you may download are available in two formats:
(1) Windows HLP files which can be read with Windows or Windows 95 with no additional software; and
(2) PDF files that can be read on many platforms but requiring Adobe Acrobat Reader, freely distributed by Adobe. (Link to Adobe below.)
The version of the Bible is King James because it's public domain.
Windows HLP format
The Windows-format Bible download files are compressed in self-extracting files. When decompressed, they become Windows 3.1 help files which can be read on a machine with Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. After downloading the files, locate the file using File Manager (or My Computer for Windows 95) and double-click to extract. Then locate the resulting help file (extension .HLP) and double-click to start.
You can leave notes and bookmarks in your copy of the Bible using standard Windows help techniques, and you can use the search features provided.
The Adobe Acrobat PDF files are not compressed and require only that you download them. They can be read on many different computer platforms, anything supported by the Adobe Acrobat Reader. This format does require you to have the Acrobat Reader. If you do not already have it, you may download it from Adobe.
